Split, a town on the Dalmatian coast in Croatia, is renowned for its beaches and the fortress-like complex in its center, the Diocletian's Palace, built by the Roman emperor in the 4th century. Formerly populated by thousands of people, its vast remains include more than 200 buildings. Between its white stone walls and under its courtyards is a cathedral and many shops, bars, cafes, hotels and houses.

Le Palais de Dioclétien (en croate : Dioklecijanova palača) est la résidence impériale fortifiée construite par l'empereur Dioclétien sur la côte dalmate pour s'y retirer après son abdication volontaire en 305. C'est l'un des édifices de l'Antiquité tardive les mieux conservés. Ces vestiges sont préservés dans le cœur historique de Split, en Croatie.
