The island of Malta is the largest of the five Maltese Islands that make up the archipelago that forms the Republic of Malta. It is located in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea, south of Italy and north of Africa, in Europe.
The island has two aquifers that enable water supply, making up for the lack of rivers and lakes. Its coasts, high and rocky, have wide and deep coves that serve as shelter for navigation, and one of which is Valletta, the country's capital. The highest point, Ta' Dmejrek, is 253 m above sea level.
Throughout its turbulent history, it played an important role in struggles for dominance in the Mediterranean and in relations between European, North African and Middle Eastern cultures.
Mdina (Maltese: L-Imdina (lɪmˈdɪnɐ); Phoenician: 𐤌𐤋𐤈, Maleṭ, Ancient Greek: Μελίττη Melíttη, Arabic: مدينة Madinah, Italian: Medina), also known by its titles Città Vecchia or Città Notabile, is a fortified city in the region north of Malta, which served as the island's capital from ancient times until the medieval period.
The island of Malta changed hands around 12 times during known history, there is evidence that it began to be inhabited 9000 years ago by a people originally from North Africa. I always wanted to visit this small city that was the capital one day..., based on the information that friends of mine gave me and that they loved visiting it, as I already live here!🤟👌😉
The city is still confined within its walls, with an area of around 2,500 m², and has a population of just under 300, but it is contiguous to the city of Rabat, which takes its name from the Arabic word for suburb, and has a population of more than 11,000 inhabitants.
It has beautiful palaces and religious buildings dating back to the 15th century, some currently occupied by aristocratic families. Text changed from Wikipedia.
Inside this small medieval city you can feel History in every street and in every building and square! Wonderfully beautiful!😍
Rabat is the city next to L-Imdina, it is newer, more modern in its architecture, with much more population and much more movement of cars and people!
I visited both in one fell swoop, chose an itinerary, and went, changing where necessary for the most varied reasons. It was wonderful to follow a route at the whim of the moment, without fixed objectives.
I visited the catatombs, which are very well preserved and restored, but I couldn't see them all...🥴😫, it was a long time underground in some very tight places...🤗😉😂
I left there with a full soul...!👌🤟🤩
