Itinerary description

This is level rail trail along the West Branch of the Delaware River from Hamden to Colchester. This section is about 4 miles. Note that this trail is good for running, mountain biking or snowmobiling. Some road bikes will find the footbed of the trail a bit rough, particularly in the western half where the trail leaves the old train rail bed to detour past the Delaware county landfill.

Partway (one mile) up this trail, a short connector trail leads uphill to the Nature Conservancy's 450-acre West Branch Preserve with hiking trails. See https://www.wikiloc.com/hiking-trails/west-branch-preserve-blue-trail-90383470
