Itinerary description
The trail starts just north of the former mining town of Ironton. It's worth checking out some of the deserted original buildings before starting out. This heavily trafficked trail is isn't difficult for experienced drivers but should be avoided when wet. Mudslides are common. The trail gently climbs through the forest along Corkscrew Gulch passing numerous old mining sites. About 2 miles from the start a there is a set of switchbacks below Red Mountain No 2. A mile further, another series of switchbacks climb up to Corckscrew Pass. There is a small parking area at the pass. The views are spectacular. At the end of this trail you can continue on the Hurricane Pass and California Gulch trails.
