Albania is a country where many different cultures have passed through, Greeks, Romans, Venetians, Byzantines, Ottomans and surely some others. And more recently, during the second world war, Italians and Germans also left their mark. It is in this period that the leader who marked the history of the country in the second half of the last century, Enver Hoxha, appears, who over time imposed an almost total isolation of the country.
All this draws a country with its own very marked characteristics and very different from ours, this alone fully justifies the trip.
We went to Albania by embarking in Barcelona to Civitavecchia, from there by road to Bari, where we took a ferry again to Durrës, where we started the route through Albania.
Important information
To drive around Albania with your own vehicle, you need to have insurance, which we can arrange just after passport control at the border, at the port of Durres itself. European insurances are of no use and neither is the green card.
Durres is a big city with all services, so if you need to change money, buy SIM card for your phone, buy groceries or anything else, now is the time to do it.
The roads between the main cities or the one that connects the entire coast are in fairly good condition, but when they pass through rural areas, things change. The route also takes areas of dirt "roads", many times these "roads" are suitable for any vehicle, but be careful if you have to pass through a mountain pass, because they can be impossible for a normal vehicle and even difficult for a 4x4 vehicle. In any case, all this can change with time and the progressive maintenance and conditioning of the road network, in fact we saw some roads under construction and/or under construction.
On the other hand, tourism is changing the face of the country very quickly, especially the coast, which is being radically transformed.
Oh!! I left one thing, camping is free throughout the country (for now), this means that you can spend the night in the natural environment, always respecting the elementary rules of respect and coexistence.
I noticed there was a bug in the trak, the final part of the Skoder to Theth round trip is missing. We actually went to Theth by road (now the most used track is paved) and back by another dirt track, but when we had already done an hour and a half on the way a landslide prevented us from continuing and we pulled back and went back the same way. I guess they will fix this and for later times it will be possible to go through this track.

We did the tour in 15 days.
Please forgive the possible mistakes in the writing, I used the google translator
Hi Jordi, thanks a lot! Your trip looks like the most complete I did find so far. I'm living in Albania part-time, and know from the locals the places to go. I only miss 'death road' (SH74 near Berat) and the passag to Korca / Vosskopje - Dardhe (the most pittoresk place in the south near Macedonia), so I'm try to puzzle this into your tour. After the lake Komani ferry I would like to go back center, to Burrel, in the mountains to Kruje and to Albanopolis (the ancient capital, amazing place, and back to my home near Durres by the sea road and Kepi Rodonit. It's overlapping for like 80% with your trip! Just love how detailed your road is and the movie. Your trips are a big help and inspiration, so thanks a lot for sharing and helping me out with this link and additional info. Your language is perfect and I could understand all of it very well!!! Thanks, I'll let you know how this proceeds ;-)
Well, thank you for this comment, the truth is that planning a trip like this and that a person who lives there (even partially) likes it is a satisfaction.
If you do the tour you're talking about, I'd love to see it posted on wikiloc.
Thank you so much
Hi Jordi, for sure we will put it online! Thnx a lot!!!
Merci
