Itinerary description
A terrific 2-hour excursion with paddle mates David and Cheryl. We started from the first exit to the west of the passion wave beach, moving up to the big blue barrel research platform. Crossing from there, we headed North, but apparently drifted a little to the NW with tidal flow. It was hard to see the edge of Ketam, so kept red channel marker well to the left and blue research station to our rear. Next time, we can head a little more due north and look for visual "west Ketam" marker. We were against the wind but it was relatively calm crossing. The lucious, protected waters between Ubin and Ketam are a pleasure to paddle around. I could enjoy exploring the area and beaches of Ubin all day. The tide was high enough that we crossed Ketam where the west and east sections meet. Upon returning, after reaching the shipping channel edge we had to wait 30 minutes for numerous ships barges and tugs to cross in the channel. It was a choppy return with the wind up to 20 kph NNE (being afternoon and monsoon season) and to our back, and our overall speed was higher. For the journey: moving time of 1:30 for 4.6 kph avg paddling speed.
