Drive 1.5 hours south from Farmington to Valley of Dreams, including half hour on increasingly sketchy two-track roads. Leave car at 8. Sky is clear but with scattered clouds, and I cross my fingers that no rain will come to make the roads impassable. Hike past 2 fascinating hoodoo areas, then around the Valley of Dreams loop (no trails anywhere in Bisti or Valley of Dreams, just walk where you want). I follow GPS track and we see Alien Throne, Chocolate Penguin King, Giant Mushroom, and countless other weird formations. Petrified wood and trees everywhere. Back to car around 11:10 as it’s getting hot, drive the long way out and back to Farmington for lunch

Good trail to follow and do not miss anything in Bad Lands area. However, we eventually walked our own counterclockwise version of Johnny's proposed route.
