Itinerary description
◈◈◈ Sedvi monastery ◈◈ ◈
◈ Sedvi or Sedvu medieval monastery ( Սեդվի վանք , Սեդվու վանք ) located in Sedvi canyon is situated close to Alaverdi town, in Lori province.
It’s 1-hour hike or 20-minute drive from Alaverdi (gravel road, not for low-slung cars), 4-hour drive from Yerevan.
◈ The monastery was found in the 13 century during the reign of the Zakarians dynasty.
◈ The main church of the complex - single-nave St Nshan ( Սուրբ Նշան ) was built with blueish basalt in the 12 century.
◈ About 0.5 km away from the monastery, there is the Sedvi castle, which is in ruins now.
(You’ll have this fort view after passing Sedvi monastery, on the way down, close to Sedvi campsite, while following Transcaucasian trail from Alaverdi to Odzun).
◈ Here I've uploaded only 1-way trail.
The length of 2-side way is 10 km.
