Itinerary description
Hike on Mount Beacon in Beacon, NY. Beautiful views of the forest, the Hudson River and New York City, this far away.
We follow the Casino trail (red trail) from the parking lot which gets to the ruins of a casino building and wheel house of an old funicular. This is a very wide trail but very steep, including a section of metal stairways at the beginning. There were a lot of hikers on this section, on a Saturday.
From the remains we continued to the fire tower which is the highest point in the whole region. Then we took the yellow trail which connects with a short blue trail and then the white trail. These three are well marked but very wild compared to the first one which is the most busy.
Finally we connected to a different yellow trail that took us to the stairs at the beginning of the red trail.
There is a free parking lot at the trailhead and also parking on the streets.
