Itinerary description

Starts outside Ye Olde Monken Holt Public House, 193 High St, Barnet EN5 5SU. Alternatively, Start on Hadley Green by the information board, opposite the CYMA car wash. Goes via Arkley Lane, Saffron Green, Dyrham Park, Dancers Hill, Wash Lane Common (picnic tables) and optional visit to Welcome Break Service Area South Mimms via the footpath entrance. Then via Bridgefoot Lane, Bentley Heath, Wrotham Park, Monken Hadley.

Start outside Ye Olde Monken Holt pub. Alternative starting point by the information board and the marble drinking fountain (not in use) on Hadley Green opposite the CYMA car wash. Go via Christchurch Lane, Sunset View then across St Albans Road and on public footpath leading to Calvert Road. Just before Calvert Road turn right on tarmac path crossing Byng Road then continue to Cavendish Road. At Cavendish Road turn left then right along Old Fold View. Although there is a path along the edge of the field, it is not a public right of way and it has a wet muddy section unless the weather is very dry. At the western end of Old Fold View turn right along Grimsdyke Crescent to the end of the road. Then turn left on a public footpath along the edge of the field to Galley Lane. Turn left along Galley Lane and then right along public restricted byway to Arkley Lane. Turn right along Arkley Lane and continue for approx. 1.75 km to WP02

A permissive path turns right and goes parallel to the road. This avoids a road walk along Baker Street. As this is a permissive path not a public right of way, it could be withdrawn in the future.

Optional detour to Monken Hadley Church. The church tower was added in the early sixteenth century. There is a cresset, or fire beacon on tower which was used for signalling and it is still lit on special occasions.
