Itinerary description

Only 3km from Mapleton, on the Sunshine Coast Hinterland Great Walk, is beautiful Baxter Falls. You can hike along the trail from the south (Flaxton Mill Rd- 6km return) or park on Obi Obi Rd and head down into the windy track into the valley from the northern side. This trail is shorter being only just over 3km return. Its easy going down and not too hard going back to your starting point as long as you are not in a hurry. The track is well signed and easy to follow. Once you cross the suspension bridge at the creek, turn left and follow the creek line about 50m to where you can see Baxter Falls dropping down the cliff into several pools below. You can swim in the bottom pool or climb up into the middle pool which is so nice as you sit under the waterfall. From there, we went 100m down stream of the suspension bridge and to another nice swimming hole and small waterfall. To expand the walk further and add some adventure, you can head off trail and up to the top of Baxter Falls were there is a series of lovely waterholes to check out. Our walk ended up being 6km return after we did these extra excursions. This is such a nice walk on a hot day as the rainforest gives plenty of shade and its always nice to swim in Baxter Creek.
