Merced Grove of Giant Sequoias in Yosemite National Park

Distance Hike: 3 miles (4.8 km) round trip

Elevation Path: 6,000 feet (1,800 meters) of total height Change: 600 feet (180 meters)

Walking time: 2-4 hours

Why visit the Mercè Grove? It is the smallest of the three fields of the giant sequoia of Yosemite, with only about twenty of these venerable creatures, but it is also the least crowded. Like the Tuolumne Grove, it is down the road all the way to the grove.

Difficulty: It's a gentle, wide track (part of it is an old path), and it's not a very long walk. You will have to climb some 600 feet (180 meters) on the way back, though. It rates 4 out of 10, somewhere in the border between easy and medium slippery.

Best time to visit: Trees are fabulous every time there is daylight. It is possible to get some wildflower flowers in spring. You have to find large groups of Western Azalea, one of the most spectacular flowers of Yosemite, which follows the last group of sequoia.

Factor multitud: The sequoias no longer show their surprise by the presence of human beings in their midst, regardless of how accurately they creep up at them. However, Mercè Grove is not far away as full as Mariposa Grove's minor.

The near bathrooms: Normally spicy of a holer at the beginning. (Plumbing closest 3.8 miles / 6 km south to the gas station of the flat crane, which is at the intersection of road 120 and the Tioga road)

Next Snacks: at Crane Flat, 3.8 miles (6 km) south. If you have eaten, there are picnic tables at the beginning of the path, a rarity on the Yosemite paths.

Directions to get there: The beginning of the Mercè Grove path is leaving the 120 freeway to the north of the Yosemite Valley. From the valley, take 120 North 13.5 miles (21 km) at the beginning of the well-marked path, which is on your left. Here is a Google Street View panorama of the parking area sender.

Parking: Lot with around a dozen spaces at the beginning of the trail

Trail Notes: Just under half of the grove, you reach a fork along the way. Turn left to continue downhill toward the tree hut. The intersection is clearly signed, and you will not have trouble finding out which way to go.

Hazards: As in any other place in Yosemite, it must be prepared for mosquitoes.
