A great run in the Upington area. Although its an 8-9 hour drive from Jhb its worth the trip. Maybe make a long weekend out of it. The race is mainly on dirt roads. The first half is practically flat as you run on Kanoneiland. The second half is on the farm and there you encounter some minor climbing. Nothing to make you walk. The biggest problem you have is the heat. The water stations are every three kilometers and there is at least one person there to pour your coke and give you a sachet of water. Be prepared to run alone for much of the race, although you get to see people on the out and back loops. The start and finish venue at Oranjerus is a great place to stay over. the camp sites are fully grassed and there is plenty to do in the vicinity. The IBIS restaurant serves excellent steaks. A really stunning race put on by Upington Crusaders. Put it on your bucket list.
