In the state of Salzburg, there is the Rauris Valley, also known as the “Golden Valley of the Alps” for the copious amounts of gold mined in this area. It is a beautiful place for horseback riding where we can start at the bottom of the valley and work our way up to the Hochalmbahn Ski Station’s highest point, an ideal spot for taking your best panoramic photo. This horse riding trail in the Austrian mountains takes us deeper into the Hohe Tauern National Park.
The Río Negro Province, in Argentina, is a great place for riding horses close to glaciers. Inside the Nahuel Huapi National Park, you can go horseback riding and discover the Argentinian region of Patagonia leading up to the main destination after hiking the last few kilometers on foot: the Otto Meiling Refuge. Located in the Cerro Tronador, the Otto Meiling Refuge is between the Castaño Overa Glacier and the Alerce Glacier. Make yourself a nice and hot mate to enjoy the full experience!
Believed to be the oldest desert on Earth, the Namib Desert in Namibia is ideal for going on a tour among the dunes and wildlife. If you visit the NamibRand Nature Reserve, you have a wonderful opportunity to go horseback riding. You can either gallop or trot for hours and feel totally alone in a unique place where your horses are sure to take advantage and roll in the sand. At night, enjoy the darkest night skies in the world and stargaze!
Chile is a country full of contrasts, which stands out for its salt flats, deserts, glaciers and volcanoes as well! The San Pedro - Pellado volcanic complex, in the Maule region, is one of the best places to see by horseback. A fascinating trail that serves as inspiration for planning your horseback adventure surrounded by volcanoes like San Pedro, Pellado and San Pablo, starting from the well-known Maule Lagoon. Careful, this volcanic area is still considered to be active!
The picturesque Montgarri Sanctuary and Refuge, in Aran Valley, is the best excuse to visit the Catalan Pyrenees by horseback. This circular excursion begins at the beautiful town of Bagergue towards the Montoliu Lake and Hill, to eventually reach Montgarri. On this horse ride, you cannot miss out on passing through the Pla de Beret at 1,860 meters high, where cows often graze. You can re-energize with an Aranese pot, the stellar dish in Aran Valley.
Chuy is the northernmost region in Kyrgyzstan, a mountainous country full of options for mountaineering, climbing and, needless to say, horse riding enthusiasts. A good choice is to be inspired by the horse riding trail that, surrounded by Kyrgyz mountains, crosses into the Issyk-Kul Region. This horse ride takes place along wild paths with some stretches at over 3,000 meters high in a territory that is mainly inhabited by the Kyrgyz, a millennial ethnic group.
The Department of Antioquia, in Colombia, has so much to offer beyond the capital, Medellín. Take Las Orquídeas Natural National Park for example, the hidden paradise of the Murrí Valley or the route that connects La Blanquita (Frontino) and El Sireno (Urrao). It is a mule crossing (part mare and part donkey) that crosses exotic landscapes among indigenous tribes. Beware, this trail is for expert adventurers only and one must be well-informed before heading into this area!
The Viñales Valley, declared a Natural Heritage Site by UNESCO, is one of the most visited regions in Cuba where we come across enormous tobacco plantations, mogotes and some of the most important caves on the island, such as the Palmarito Cave (the largest underground grotto in Cuba). Viñales is an ideal place for going on the best horse riding trail surrounded by fields of tobacco, coffee, sugar cane and tropical fruit trees. Not to mention all those dreamy beaches!
