near As Sūr, Raʼs al Khaymah (United Arab Emirates)

4x4 with 4Low gear is required.

A very rewarding off-road mountain climb near RAK. The view is spectacular and the drive is fun (if you enjoy off-roading).

Mostly the climb is only wide enough for one car at a time, but there are some wider passing spots. Allow 1.5 hrs from the highway but it could be longer if you have to wait for convoys or if your engine overheats.

The top is becoming more and more developed so visit soon and please clean up after yourself.

This track has recently been damaged so I’d rate it moderate-difficult. It’s a steep, slow climb, so make sure your car’s filters are clean and the fluids are topped up. (NB: never open your radiator/coolant cap when the engine is hot - be sure to top up before the drive)

We didn’t need to stop in June but your transmission or engine may overheat and need time to cool down before continuing.

- Dropping tyre pressure to 80% is highly recommended after leaving the sealed tarmac.
- 4-Low gear is essential for safety.
- Can be done as a single car, but off-roading is always safer and more fun in a convoy.
- No mobile service for much of this drive.

Almost out of the wadi - starting to climb

Start of the climb (turn right up this hill for the ascent)

Potential camping spot (always park as far off the main track as possible)

Amazing view from the top. Can be a bit busy before sun set

Some construction material and rubbish

Back on the tarmac

Fun drive to the top of the Wadi. Great Views but Worth to mention that the residents don’t appreciate people camping there over night.

Great trail we really enjoyed the drive!

As there have been cars which had to turn around I would rate the trail more to the difficult side as it is very steep at some parts and you should know you’re car pretty well and have decent off-road experience. Proper 4x4 is mandatory!

Hi all. Glad you enjoyed the trail as much as we did! I’ve added a note at the top of the description to make it extra clear that 4x4 with 4-Low is required.

We camped half way down and the local residents were friendly in the morning - some areas may be more acceptable than others for camping
