Sabalan is the third highest mountain in Iran with 4811m. Savalan or Sabalan is extinct, Alborz (Elbrus) mountain range and is an inactive stratovolite in the Ardabil province of northwestern Iran. At the height of 4,811 meters, it is the third highest mountain in Iran. There is a permanent crater lake at the summit. According to Avesta, Zoroaster was born near the D Dan Usta ın (the current Aras River) and wrote the book Aras Avesta Av in the region where Savalan Mountain was located. Therefore the mountain is considered sacred. Sabalan is among the Turkish-speaking natives read as “Sāvālān”, but the old local name is Savalun, a three-part word meaning ancak snow-nest okun.
