The trail head commences to the right of the small lake looping around through private land up a rise until the National Park Gate. From the gate the ascent becomes steeper.

The reasonably clean trail up the Cotswold Track/NE Ridge is a vast mixture of dirt, rock and root steps. As you climb steadily through the sparse tree covered slope and lookout for the occasional peek of the surrounding land and the magnificent rocky parapet that makes up the opposite ridge line.

The Northern Face dauntingly lingers above and you reach the highest point of the ridge where traversing right must be made. From here it is a slight descent into the gorge along a well warn trail. Once in the gorge it is a steep climb to the head which junctions right to the summit or left to the Eastern Pinnacle. As per this trail we visited the Eastern Pinnacle for a short moment to catch a breath and appreciate both of Maroon's Peak's.

From this point it is a simple retrace back to the junction and through the saddle in a south western direction to gain access to the large slabs that reach the 960m high summit. The summit grants you unobstructed 360 degree views of the surrounding peaks and multiple spots for lunch.

Return via the same route with caution in the gorge due to loose scree.

Nice work, definately doing this one soon. Climbed Maroon back in Year 11 on a 5 day camp / hike around Maroon Dam for school camp. That was 14 years ago, wow getting old!

Thanks Scruhland. Couldn't ask for more with perfect weather and crystal clear skies. I wonder if the cairn at the top is bigger then when you were there 14 years ago!
