A 3 day, 2 night canoe trip with hiking too. This is a catalog entry for the following trips: Big Hawk Lake to Sherborne Lake Sherborne Dam to Plastic Lake Sherborne Lake to Big/Little Hawk Lake Little Hawk Lake to Log Chute a.k.a. Crests of Kennisis
Do not rely on the GPS for this catalog trail as it was hand drawn. The individual entries provide an accurate reading for the route taken.
This was a casually paced trip that gives you lots of time to explore the area. The Hawk to Sherborne Lake paddle took about 3 hours which leaves a lot of time for travel to the start/access point and for setting up camp when you arrive. Our second day (Sherborne Dam/Plastic Lake) was spent exploring (paddle + hiking) and can last as long as you want. On our final day we broke camp and paddled from Sherborne Lake to Little Hawk (2 hours) and then hiked back to our start point (Crests of Kennisis) which took an hour and a half. The drive back to pick up the canoe was about 10 minutes (we left canoe, paddles and life jackets at the dock on Little Hawk).
We combined some paddling with hiking and camping and had a great time. The weather was perfect! There were some bugs on the hiking portions and wind could be a concern on the lakes (a couple of times we used the protection of the shoreline). Overall, very enjoyable!
A popular area in the summer time, make sure to reserve your campsites in advance (Haliburton Highlands Water Trails).
