near Ochopee, Florida (United States)

The launch is at the south end of Sea Grape Drive (0.6 miles long) off US 41, about 2.5 miles east of SR29. No fee, plenty of parking, no restrooms, some picnic tables. The launch is flat, shallow, and easy into a one-mile-long straight canal. The marsh entrance is about 0.4 miles from the launch on the southeast side. It's narrow and easily missed.

In the summer - bring bug spray... (DEET)... lots of bug spray... lots and lots and lots of bug spray.

Once you enter the cut to the marsh, it's a pretty straight shot traveling cross-country just a little south of east toward the Turner River, which is about 3.5 miles away from the cut, but this time we only went in about 1.7 miles and then south to do a little exploring. On the way back, we passed over a dead gator (or maybe one with possum DNA just playing dead... and doing a great job of it). We marked the spot and will see if he's still there the next time we go.

We put pictures in the View More tab.
