Bowtie Island is the site of a primitive campsite in Estero Bay along the Florida Circumnavigational Paddling Trail (CT). No permit or notice is required to camp there overnight. Primitive means no facilities of any kind. In military slang it's the green latrine surrounded by the blue latrine, so please be careful and leave the area habitable and clean for the following user. The site is presently well-maintained by Lee County.
The open area looks to be about 50 ft by 75 ft. The ground is complex, and there are small stumps, but plenty of room for sleeping and pulling your paddlecraft inside away from the bay, and the trees provide some small shelter from bad weather,
The island is the southernmost point of segment 12 of the CT (Lee County) and is the start of Segment 13 of the CT (Southern Lee County and all of Collier County) if you take the inland route instead of offshore.
