near Mount Victoria, New South Wales (Australia)
The walk starts from the carpark at the end of Victoria Falls road. Both the Cascades and the top of Victoria Falls are located on side walks but are definitely worth visiting. There was some confusion regrading the location of the trail at the base of Victoria Falls as the track notes I was using indicated that the track followed the western side of the creek. In reality the track crosses the creek at the base of Victoria Falls and continues down the eastern side till it reaches the Grose River. The track along the Grose river is less maintained in comparison to the earlier section and largely traverses the Western bank of the Grose River except for a few early crossings. There are a few nice stopping spots along this section of the Grose River for swimming as well as at least two flowing tributaries which could provide good quality drinking water.
The Blue Gum Forest section of the walk contains the only dead flat portion of walking available on this trip. There is a track junction located centrally in this area and the southern heading track is the one that leads back to Govett's leap. Acacia Flats compround is located a few 100m pas this track junction. At the first creek crossing along this point there is the option to visit Junction Rock, though this landmark is not particularly spectacular. From here the track starts to head steadily uphill and yes there are a very large number of steps! Like a lot of steps! Bridal Veil Falls provides an excellent break spot before a slow ascent is made up through the cliff-face to the summit of Govett's Leap.
