Its a lovely extremely well preserved trail, thanks to Chouf reserve volunteers, where we met bunch of groups working on keeping the trail safe and clear.
This was our first time doing this trail, we repeated it in a month and we added an exciting sightseeing: “Imad’s rock/house” following a roman path to reach it. A definitely worth visit spot and advisable (Check it saved directly after this trail in my trails list)
The trail starts at Our Lady church in Môkhtara. The first 5km u’ll be chasing the Awali river, extremely beautiful section passing by Roman and Ottoman bridges, watermills, rest areas, ruins... then u slightly mount up and continue ur way towards the south but over a cliff, on an easy dirt road, until u reach a metal gate where u have to cross it (not sure why its mentioned private property next to the gate) to reach the wired bridge at Aammatour, an exquisite spot. Enjoy a coffee break there,
Later, a section under the same cliff u were walking over, this part was tricky and unclear. I myself enjoyed it very much. BUT anyway, now the chouf reserve took care of this section also and it has become very easy to follow. We noticed the difference and how much effort these volunteers has put when we did it again after a month. Many thanks and appreciation.
If ur looking for easier, shorter trail and veery beautiful one, u can turn ur way back at Sheikh Hasan roman bridge towards the bride’s pond. This becomes a very easy and safe trail for families.
DO NOT miss the bride’s pond sightseeing.
