near Sâqiet el Khaït, Mont-Liban (Lebanon)
Lovely sacred hike in my mother’s hometown, in the valley of Sakiet El Khait. Impressive mountainous landscape in a steep vertical slopes, with beautiful sceneries.
U’ll get to explore where 2 hermits saint Semaan and saint Antonios dwelt in an ancient caves aged for more than 1000 years old.
To enter Mar Antonios cave-church, u have to crawl inside a rocky hole, and u can check the 4 level rooms carved in the rocks if u chose to continue walking VERY CAUTIOUSLY on the tiny edge after the church.
To enter Mar Semaan cave-church, encrusted in the cliff, uhave to climb the 20m high steel stairs, which used to be wooden before. Check the residue of paintings on the inner walls. It would be nice to have a candle wz u and light it there.
Easy trail with clear paths, except a small section when u start mounting from the river in a gently ascending forest path, where ur direction is clear but u have to venture in some bushes to find ur path.
The walk in the silent river of Jaj is not to be missed. U reach a wonderful spot called “Ghabbit El Blata” one of the most exquisite place to visit. U HAVE TO CHECK IT. Back in the days, this river was ghastly rapid, and it is believed that Phoenicians made a good use of Jaj cedars and were sending its wood through this river to build their ships.
