Depending on the place of commencement, this tour constitutes the initial or final part of one of the Great Hiking Routes of New Zealand, for some the best, although in our opinion that qualifier has at least two superior contenders: the Milford Trail and the Abel Tasman Coastal Track (although this is not an alpine trail, the final drop will be very close, and the views are simply stunning).
We decided to do this route as a complement to the tour of the Dart River, which we did on the morning of the same day, so we started to walk towards 3 o'clock in the afternoon, with a slight drizzle that gradually increased until going to free rain later, but the trees, the hat and the raincoats did a good job and we did not feel very affected by it (on the other hand, in the south island of New Zealand rain is the natural state of the weather, so you get used to it soon).
From the Shelter, the route crosses a bridge over the river and enters the forest through a well-marked and marked trail (which does not coincide with the track that we have seen communicated by others in Wikiloc, so it is possible that its layout be relatively recent). The forest is very beautiful, and changes vegetation on several occasions, until you reach a beautiful meadow at the level of the Flats. The protagonist, however, seems to us the river, aggressive and with great unevenness, which translates into frequent waterfalls and rapids, although none can be compared to the Routeburn Falls, where it begins, but its beauty is enormous.
On the way back we chose the route of the natural path, where the forest is even more beautiful and there are many signs that give interesting information about the centenary trees that inhabit it (the forest giants).
Altogether, a very beautiful road, of little physical demand if you do not want to go very fast, which we think is highly recommended, but honestly, if we had more time we would have preferred to do the complete track, to finish in The Divide and go through all the path. The problem is that we ended up thinking the same of each and every one of the New Zealand Great Walks we have visited, and doing so would have required much more time. Although it also provides a good excuse to return and finish what we have started.

    Ruta fácil.
    Entorno de bosque tropical.
Agua, árboles endémicos, pájaros y muy poca gente.
    Ideal para tarde de meditación

La lluvia lo hizo más cómodo, pero el entorno es maravilloso.
