Route taken on 10-11 / 07/2016
Circular route of two days through the National Park of Rondane, one of the most beautiful in Norway, located in the center south of the country 200 km from Oslo, with 963 km² and numerous summits of more than 2,000m with the Rondslottet (Castle of the Ronde) as the highest mountain with 2,178m of altitude. We will approach the park from the town of Otta, taking the Rondanevegenen that leaves the E6 east of the town and that goes up in a zigzag and that will take us to the town of Mysusæter, where we take a toll road that will take us north towards Spranget parking, where we will leave the car and start the tour.

DAY 1 - SPRANGET - RONDSLOTTET - REFUGE OF BJØRNHOLLIA

Distance: 25,1 km
Time: 9h 32m

We started walking from the parking lot to the north following a wide track. In the parquin you can rent bicycles to save the walk to the refuge of Rondvassbu, but we will complete the journey on foot to get into the park little by little and enjoy the rugged landscape that will take us in just an hour and a half and after something more than 6km to the refuge, next to the beautiful lake Rondvatnet that juts out like a knife towards the north, cutting the highest mountains of the National Park.
We will climb the path that ascends east of the refuge and that goes towards the northeast in the direction of the great peaks that are distinguished on the horizon. After leaving to the right the detour that goes to the top of the other colossus of the area, the Storronden, we will continue straight until entering the valley of Rondholet. We will cross the valley through a field of stones to the circus, where we will face the ascent to the Collado del Circo de Rondholet that separates the valley with Storbotn, spotting under us the beautiful lakes that form under the circus.
From the hill we take the stony edge that will take us to the first peak of the day, the Vinjeronden with 2044m of altitude. We will continue north along the crest descending towards the hill that forms between the two peaks, to rise again, always along a path strewn with stones, to the highest peak of the Park, the Rondslottet with 2178m. At the top the wind blows a lot and we take shelter next to the square wall that forms the geodesic point of the summit, taking advantage to eat and gather strength to face the descent.
After the photos of rigor and after enjoying the great views that are contemplated from the top, we begin to descend by the northeast slope that is full of snow, with the enormous view of the valley of Langglupdalen in front of us. After a steep descent of more than 900m in aapensa 3.5km we will reach the valley, crossing the Langglupbekken stream and taking the path that runs through the valley to the southeast on a long walk, leaving behind the superb view of the mountains that we leave to our backs We will cross again the Langglupbekken by a small bridge next to a beautiful waterfall, and we will continue until the end of the valley to turn south and connect with the G2 track that accesses the east entrance of the Park. We will go into a coniferous forest and arrive a bit surrendered to the refuge of Bjørnhollia.
We will settle in one of its beautiful wooden buildings, and after a refreshing hot shower we will taste a copious dinner together with other mountaineers. Afterwards, a cold beer mug will put the perfect finishing touch to a magnificent day.

DAY 2 - REFUGE OF BJØRNHOLLIA - ILLMANNDALEN - SPRANGET

Distance: 18.2 km
Time: 4h 57m

After a good night's sleep and a strengthening breakfast, we will start early to earn hours a day. At this time of year, this altitude does not reach nightfall all day, so it is a bit disconcerting to wake up at three in the morning with light in the sky.
We will fear the exit of the refuge that goes westwards and that goes quickly after a small ascent, to the enormous valley of Illmanndalen that forms the throat of the Illmannåe. We walk calmly down the valley along a perfectly marked path up and down pastures and gentle slopes that do not report excessive effort and make the route very pleasant. After overcoming a kind of natural dam that cuts the valley, we will descend to the north bank of the river and begin to appear the beautiful lakes of Illmannstjernene that will emerge one after another, until practically the end of the valley. As a finishing touch, the Fremre Illmannstjern appears, the largest of the lakes that leads to a beautiful ravine where the valley dies.
We cross a small bridge over the ravine and connect with the G3, which will take us to the parking lot, to end the tour of this fantastic National Park.
