Leaving Greymouth by the coast road, next to the beach of dark boulders, you reach about 5 km. to the Dommett Esplanade, in Cobden, where the route we describe begins. It is a route that can be considered easy due to its length, but some slopes are somewhat more demanding, and that is why we have qualified it as moderate.
The path, wide and with good soil in general, crosses a subtropical forest very changeable, with pieces in which the Nikau palm dominates, others in which the agaves of the area are very usual or exclusive, and others in which the ferns giants are mixed with other tree species. The marine views are very frequent, especially when we approach the viewpoint, which allows us to appreciate a large number of islands in Rapahoe Bay. Looking at the sea we can see spots that seemed to move in the vicinity of the rocks and, exploring the coast more closely, we find under our feet a colony of seals.
At the beginning of the return I followed the Rapahoe road for a while, but when I saw that it was going inland (although it ended up on the Rapahoe beach) and that the distance to where we had left our car increased as the end approached In the afternoon, I went back to attend the spectacle, always exciting and beautiful, of a sunset on a western coast: in this case, that of the Tasman Sea. Maybe in Ibiza they are cleaner, but this one was not bad.
Altogether, a short itinerary, whose length can be duplicated following up to Rapahoe, through a very beautiful forest, in which we find large groups of Nikau palm trees, one of the most beautiful that exist, with the additional attraction of a colony of seals In this context the assessment can only be: highly recommended.
