near Platte Clove, New York (United States)
This adventurous day hike starts at the edge of Platte Clove Road and descends, or perhaps surfs, down into the lower part of the cove. When following the stream to the waypoint of the waterfall you’ll loop around and head back on the upper un- paved path until you reach the stream. Here you’ll ascend until it reaches the end of a 200 to 300 foot mountainside wall (fol- low the stream up). There are some cairns you’ll pass along the stream to guide you. On a hot day it may be hard to resist jump- ing into the water for a swim or even avoid trying not to get wet.
At the end of your hike you’ll pass some old blue stone quar- ries and cross over a replica of the King Post Bridge. The road was said to have provided access to Overlook Road which had provided access to The Overlook Hotel back in the day.
To get here just turn back on the trail and head to The Overlook Hotel. (Page 23)
Remember the first part of this hike is off trail. The position below is to the start of the descent. It’s best to find parking first before heading to this location. Remember, this hike is difficult and not recommended for beginners.
