Our walk from Vercelli, Italy to Montpellier, France, mostly on the GR653d but taking several trails off route because of the lack of accommodations or to avoid excessively mountainous routes that are tough for 60+ year olds like us who are carrying all our gear. Some of our trails were likely much nicer that the GR route (for us) and some were likely not as nice. Two days were completely off trail due to no place to sleep.
