Round trip from Long Island City - Vernon Boulevard, New York, to Roosevelt Island; Full return to the island, passing through the Franklin Roosevelt Four Freedoms Park, and return.

The march begins at the Gantry Plaza State Park, located in Long Island City, on the banks of the East River, just in front of the United Nations building, in the area where until recently the large Pepsi Cola factory was located. At present, it has become a highly valued New York residential neighborhood.

Following Vernon Boulevard, we arrive at Queensbridge Park, a small urban park from which you can contemplate a close and excellent view of the Queensboro Bridge. At a short distance, we reach, on the left, the detour to the Roosvelt Island Bridge, a small drawbridge that crosses one of the branches of the East River and allows pedestrians and vehicles access to Roosevelt Island.

Once on the island, we took the east sidewalk, which is not particularly nice, having views of some factories and warehouses in Astoria, Queens, but arriving at the northern end of Roosevelt Island, there is a small park, the Lighthouse Park, with green area and a picturesque lighthouse.

We rounded the corner of Roosvelt Island, and followed the side walk on the west side of the island, much more careful than the opposite, overlooking the central area of Manhattan.

During the tour there are some small gardens, sculptures and an original viewpoint over the river, shaped like a ship's bow.

Towards the middle of the island there is a metro station, and a funicular that connects Roosvelt Island with Manhattan, and whose route is parallel and close to the Queensboro Bridge.

On the other side of the bridge, we continue the side walk of the island, in an area with numerous cherry trees, that accompany us to the ruins of an old hospital, and the entrance of the Franklin Roosevelt Four Freedoms Park.

Franklin Roosevelt Four Freedoms Park, located at the southern end of Roosevelt Island, is a small park, built in a location with privileged views of Manhattan and the East River, although the whole is cold due to the abuse of large marble surfaces and granite, as if in its design someone had tried to emulate the construction of a kind of mausoleum. Only the sunset over Manhattan and the beautiful views of the United Nations and Long Island City, allow to compensate for the coldness of the environment, which has a lot of stone, and many trees are missing.

Already back to Gantry Plaza State Park, the evening over Manhattan gives us beautiful images of the Empire State Building and other buildings, with night lighting.
