This was an easy overnight hike with the Mrs. A short stroll to Lower Portals via a well trodden trail then over the ridge to view the top entrance of the Lower Portals. Barney Gorge Camp is located at the head of Barney Gorge on the north bank of Barney Creek. The site was accessed by rock hopping up Barney Creek on nice slabs. A quick side trip up to Barney waterfall without packs,in which I forgot to take the GPS, then onto the camp. The trip home followed the ridge line to Lower portals which has many nice views of Barney's peaks. This rock hop up Barney Creek has no real difficulties; however, it depends on how much water is flowing down Barney Creek. If water is high some water holes may need to be bypassed on higher ground on the northern bank. There was only one spot on this trip where water blocked our path and we backtracked to a suitable assent which lead to a well used gully marked upstream by a cairn.
