Mount Fuji - 富士山 - 5th station - Yoshida 2018-07-30 22:24
(english - summary in english)

This is a classic ascension to Fuji, the sacred mountain of Japan, declared Heritage of Unesco since 2013 as a "cultural heritage". They say that every Japanese has to go up at least once in life and the truth is that I have read that the majority (70%) of those who make the ascent are Japanese. For many years women were banned. There is a season to do that goes from July to beginnings of September. There are marked different routes (in total four), and we have chosen the most common (yellow Yoshida, and that allows you to see the sun coming out even if you have not reached the top of everything-in fact we saw some groups that stopped the ascension before arriving and resting calmly until the sunrise).

We booked the last bus that leaves the Sinjuku bus station (4th floor) - Tokyo and goes straight to the point where they call the 5th station, about 2,000 meters high and the highest point where cars arrive.

We arrived in the middle of the night, in fact we left Tokyo and at night, the 5th station was virtually empty. Some people in the refugee room and those who just arrived on the bus. There you can buy water and drinks, and you have services.

Already ready we started climbing. It is practically impossible to lose yourself ;-) everything is signposted and there is a moment that the row of people going up already marks the way. In many places you can rest, buy water or a refreshing or hot drink (we took a hot soup practically at the top). There are other mountaineers who do what they do is leave in the afternoon to take the climb in two stages, because you can sleep in one of the many refuges or stations that are on the way and get up just to do the final stretch. I would say that older people opted for this alternative, because we were the last to leave and the crowd that was up at the time of sunrise (hundreds and hundreds of people) were already rising when we arrived at the 5th station.

The sunrise ... spectacular ... orange-red color above a sea of clouds. Everyone was delighted. There were a few long minutes where a fly was not heard ... and then the flag of Japan came up and there was a cry of "Banzai, Banzai ..." incredible. A quick look at the crater and already slowly descending along a path that can go up motorized orugas. The slope is still important and if you have your knees touched you, even though you walk very well.

This climb is not at all difficult, you just have to have a certain physical shape and be dressed for height and possible bad weather conditions (wind and rain) that we can find. We took about 6 hours (in the final part the crowd did not let you walk, and you went turtle, in Indian line), but the girls did it in 1-2 hours less. At the beginning it is a path and then ends up in a path that rises steeply. Some sections have steps and in others you go on stones. I would say that you do not practically any cloth. However, you have to keep in mind that you are at any moment between 2,000 and 4,000 meters in height, it will be black night and that the slope will be more than 1,250 meters.

If you like to walk and go to Japan, do not miss the ascent to Fujisan, and do not leave it to the end, after days of making the "tourist" you are no longer as fit as at the beginning.

Remember that it is necessary to prepare the route to go to see Park Access Conditions and Allowed Areas
