near South Wellington, British Columbia (Canada)
The Morden Colliery Trail runs along an old railroad grade used to move coal from the mines of South Wellington to Boat Harbour during the early 1900s. At one end of the trail is Morden Colliery Historic Provincial Park and at the other end is Hemer Provincial Park. The two sections of the trail are separated by the Nanaimo River, but there are plans to build two multi-use bridges (for pedestrian, cyclist, wheelchair and equestrian use) over the Nanaimo River.
The trail discussed here is on the west side of the river and is accessed from Morden Road. The trail includes a short interpretive trail around the old mine site and a trail along the old railroad grade down to the Nanaimo River.
