near Darlington, Queensland (Australia)

This would have to be one of the best short walks I've done. It follows a mixture of paved, trails, dirt roads, faint footpads. The moderate rating is really only prescribed due to the limited walking track present when following the ridgeline out to Castle Crag as well as some light scrambling and exposure.

This walk begins at the carpark you drive past about 500m before reaching O'reileys visitor centre and Green Mountains Camping Area. The first Sections down to Morans Falls is almost entirely sealed with bitumen (though there are a few steps). The views from Morans Falls are pretty spectacular and this waterfall is by far one of the largest in Lamington National Park. There is a later viewpoint on the far side of the falls where the track continues onto O'reileys guesthouse private property. This track soon turns into a 4WD road which is signed with directions to both Castle and Moonlight Crag.

The 4WD road to Castle Crag follows the long ridgeline out to the end of the power-lines before transitioning into a faint footpad. The power-lines strtch from his point to a northern ridge about 1.5km away so make sure you stop and appreciate how difficult it would have been to initially set up these wires.

Upon following this faint footpad you soon arrive at a feature referred to as Balancing Rock which is fairly obviously named and has been cordoned off due to its instability. the track continues past this and becomes considerably more brushy as the ridgetop narrows. Castle Crag is reached when you arrive at the end and offers 180 degree views of the Lost World Plateau and further away features to the North West including Buchanans Fort. Note there is very limited room at Castle Crag so this section of the walk should not be done by a large group.

To head to Moonlight Crag simply return to the signed junction just below the top of the hill you walked over to reach Castle Crag. This path heads uphill before intersecting a 4WD track (can be used as a shortcut back to Morans Falls on upon return), then immediately heading back into the rainforest and shortly reaching Moonlight Crag. This lookout is decked and even contains power outlets suggesting it is for paying tourists at O'reilleys guesthouse and makes it a very comfortable stop. The legality of walking on O'reileys land without consent is uncertain. However these sites are quite spectacular and places like Castle Crag and the Lost World Plateau cannot be accessed if private property is not entered.

Castle Crag as viewed from Moonlight Crag. The views were a bit poor due to a fire to the west in Mt Barney National Park on Mt Ernest https://pt.wikiloc.com/trilhas-trekking/morans-falls-castle-crag-and-moonlight-crag-19186163/photo-12042577

O'reileys resort as viewed from the 4WD track just below Moonlight Crag. The visitor center is located just over the ridgeline. https://pt.wikiloc.com/trilhas-trekking/morans-falls-castle-crag-and-moonlight-crag-19186163/photo-12042715
