Going up the Jackrabbit trail was easy. But the trail was icy.
Turning on to the McKenzie trail, you walk about 400 m over a shallow creek. Tread carefully if you don’t want to end up with a wet foot. Then comes 600 m of steep trail with lots of ice flows, there you need good 10 point crampons. We managed to find grips on small trees and roots to pull ourselves up. We didn’t need a rope, but if you are accompanied by children, you would need one.
You haven’t reached the summit until you can read the thermometer. Near the summit you will be rewarded with beautiful scenery.
The way up Haystack via the herd trail was easy. The trail is unmarked; but you can follow the rabbit tracks up the mountain. The rabbits use the trail as a highway. On Haystack you get a beautiful view of the eastern panorama.
