near Le Mas-d’Azil, Occitanie (France)
At the camping in a bend of the D119 we continued to follow the GR 78 along the D1a to the first track to the right, the 'Lac de Filheit (Fillet).
Arriving at the lake you will get your first beautiful view of the lake and its surroundings. There is also a parking place here. Offically it is forbidden to swim or bathe in the lake, but we saw some people do it. It is a very quiet lake therefore.
The track alongside the lake is good and broad, only wet and muddy in a few places but this gets different after leaving the GR 78 at the end of the lake. Then the track is narrow and muddy (after wet weather) and it is a VTT track as well. There are a few places where you have to be careful not to sink into the mud. However, it is a very nice part of the walk as you get to see more of the lake and it is frequently possible to step aside from the track and enjoy the beauty of the lake.
After leaving the lake the track becomes a narrow road which will take you from a heighth of 320 to 400 m. through an open countryside which will give you wonderful views back over the lake.
We continued on the narrow steep road which then descends into Le Mas d'Azil and you can't avoid noticing how wonderful this village is situated within the bowl of the surrounding beautiful hills.
