near Gillamoor, England (United Kingdom)
This is a circular tour starting and finishing at Green Lane where there is limited parking along the road; the lane is near Fadmoor.
It starts with a gentle descent into Mell Bank Wood, where there are large drifts of wild garlic in bloom at this time of year (May). At other places in the tour you can see bluebells, cowslips and violets.
After the descent, the route, mostly through light woodland, follows Hodge Beck for a while; occasionally, it comes out into open meadows. After Hold Caldron whilst the tour still follows the beck, the water has disappeared and the beck has become a dry river bed.
A gentle ascent through Kirkdale Howl leads to the road of Starfits Lane and so back to Green Lane. This is easy walking for about a mile.
