"Escape the hurly burly of everyday life and enjoy the breathtaking flora and fauna in the dunes of the Amsterdamse Waterleidingduinen (AWD). This is a unique nature reserve, perfect for walking. Because you are allowed off the tracks, no two walks are the same."
This is how the dunes near Zandvoort are promoted !
And yes, plenty of variations to any trails here are possible in this area of outstanding natural beauty.
You don’t need a guide to walk in the Amsterdamse Waterleidingduinen. All you need is an entrance ticket. Day passes (at 1 euro 50 per person) can be bought at the three entrances to the area, as well as parking tickets (2 euros per day).
This walk starts from the entrance along Zandvoortselaan 130 (just next to restaurant De Duinrand), in between Zandvoort and Bentveld. As you can see you can also start this walk from "De Oase" entrance near the Oranjekom visitor centre (see waypoint).
This day I came eye to eye with at least 50 fallow deer and saw great numbers of cormorants towards the end of the walk, near a lake.
Within the first kilometer of the walk you can also come across the old bunkers from World War II which today offer homes to bats.

And with plenty of benches to take a break, you're bound to have a wonderful and relaxing day out here.
Picnic

Paddestoel 22167

A place to picknick, a shelter against the rain or wind if you need it, and a signpost telling you the distances.
Information point

Bezoekerscentrum Oranjekom Visitor Centre

Visitor centre, where you can learn about the water purification process: fresh water from the Rhine is pumped into the dunes and every day about 180,000m3 of water is purified for the whole greater Amsterdam region. You can also have a drink or a bite to eat here, and find announcements of upcoming activities like night walks for example.
