Onze wandeling begint op de parkeerplaats langs de Route de l’Ancienne Douane op 40 km van Vielsalm en langs de zuidrand van de Hoge Venen. Ter hoogte van deze parking stroomt de Trôs Marets onder de weg door. Aan de overzijde van de asfaltweg die hier een scherpe bocht maakt, daal je gewoon de berm af en loop je meteen het sparrenbos in, langs de rivier. Laat je niet misleiden door het beeld van Google Maps want dit dateert uit 2010 en hierop is pal aan de overzijde van de parking nog een dicht bos te zien. Een stukje van dit bos, net ter hoogte van ons startpunt, is echter gewoon verdwenen.
De route is meestal goed gemarkeerd met de gekende wit/rode strepen maar het is zeker opletten geblazen.

Our walk begins at the parking lot along the Route de l’Ancienne Douane, 40 km of Vielsalm and along the southern edge of the High Fens. Across this parking the Trôs Marets flows under the road. On the other side of the asphalt road that makes a sharp turn here, you can leave the roadside and walk right in the fir forest along the river. Do not be fooled by the picture of Google Maps because it dates from 2010 and shows you a dense forest at the other side of the parking lot. Unfortunately, a piece of that forest, right in front of our starting point, just disappeared.
The route is usually well marked with the familiar white / red stripes but nevertheless it is necessary to pay attention all the time.

Thanks for this delightful walk. An alternative, after about 1km is to continue along the 500m contour to the crushed gravel track and turn right (away from A la Spinette). This track passes some pleasant fields and cow pastures before revealing a very nice view point. We then took the road which descends back to the river and a footbridge crossing, as well as a lovely opportunity to cool off one's feet in the ford.
