As in the Toraja routes:
https://es.wikiloc.com/wikiloc/view.do?id=19115604 and
https://es.wikiloc.com/wikiloc/view.do?id=19115693,
On this route we chose to contract the Bromo package in Probolinggo from the same hotel. Part of the kilometers of the route are by car, the displacement that there is from the viewpoint to the parking of the Volcano. There is no problem in hiring the activity because there are many companies that are dedicated to that. It includes a taxi-SUV that picks you up and returns you to the hotel, a specific off-roader for the approach to the volcano and a small breakfast, but you can hire a package with more and less services. You can also go on your own, but you need time to prepare everything, and although this option is more expensive, it made up for the convenience of "preparing everything for you". Still, you have to keep in mind that they try to get you all the money they can and that they see the tourist as a source that distributes euros.
The taxi comes to pick you up at 3 in the morning so that you have time to take you to a viewpoint near the Bromo-Tengger-Semeru National Park. It takes an hour to arrive and when you leave the vehicle, in total darkness (I recommend bringing a flashlight and warm clothes) you have to walk a quarter of an hour until you reach a lookout. Little by little, other tourists arrive and patiently wait for the sun to rise. In this place there are hot drink stands (tea, coffee ...). When we have photographed the Bromo (every 5 minutes a photo) we decided to return to the taxi, which brings us to the vicinity of the Park so that an "official" off-road vehicle will take us to the Volcán car park.
You have to pay an extra tax to enter that we did not understand because we already had an "all inclusive". (I recommend to make clear when hiring Probolinggo what is included in the package, to avoid unpleasant situations that make you suspect that they are taking advantage of the situation).
Once in the parking lot of Bromo, ABSOLUTELY MASIFIED, you climb the volcano on your own. The truth is that it has no problem. It takes very little although it seems distant. Nor is it necessary to stay all morning, with one hour of time to get comfortable with the idea of the environment. On the ascent there is a lot of dust, partly produced by the small horses that take tourists and run down to make more trips. As there are so many people you can not miss.
Before the last climb to the crater there is a staircase. It is so crowded that you even have to ask for a shift. You can climb with a little care on one side, parallel to the staircase.
When arriving at the crater it is difficult to move because of the amount of people there are. A railing protects the safety of people, but if you want to be a little calmer, you must leave the railing and walk through the crater. If you opt for this suggestion, you should take extreme precautions because the fall to both sides of the crater is very bad.
To lower I recommend using the ladder because the firm is slippery and goes faster than going up.
When we reached the landing of the staircase, we left the path to climb and get to know the gullies and ravines of the volcano. If you decide to follow this recommendation, just follow the track. You have to be careful, because at some point there is loose soil in some descent, but the risk is minimal.
After finishing down the ravines, we reach the "Sea of Ashes" and a little later to the parking lot.
We must bear in mind that Bromo is the national emblem of Indonesia and that it is very visited by all kinds of people, most of them tourists.

The route described here, as well as the GPS tracks are indicative. It is the responsibility of whoever carries it out, to take the appropriate security measures for the itinerary, which will depend on the weather conditions, as well as the technical and physical preparation of the person who carries it out. It is very clear that everything indicated (track and comments) is purely informative and without any other kind of spirit, exempting the author from any responsibility, before any mishap that could suffer who by will or induced induced the route.
