Our initial idea was to make an ascent to the top of Ben Lomond, but we had hired the food in the Stratosphere restaurant and it turned out that the shift for which the reservation had been made was at 12 o'clock in the morning and it was not possible to change the reservation for 14 hours, which would have allowed us to reach the expected peak.
In those conditions we had to alter the original forecast (it was not possible to make the ascent after the meal because we had a meeting of forced attendance in the afternoon), and we chose to arrive alone until the hill of Ben Lomond, from which in less than time and by a well marked trail you can access the top.
The ascent by cable car offers views of great beauty, and the facilities of the upper complex are very good, clearly deserving the visit. The cement track of bobs seems very funny, although the risk does not seem negligible (we have seen children and inexperienced people going down at the same time as people who were going down at enormous speed, with what that implies in terms of consequences of a collision). Note apart is the Stratosphere restaurant, with spectacular views and a buffet of great quality and variety, which surprised us very positively, although we had already been told that it was very good and that we did not stop going. Really, highly recommended.
The path itself is relatively short, well marked and with eroded areas and high slope, so it is not an easy climb and it is advisable to wear appropriate footwear. The views of the surroundings of Lake Wakatipu, Queenstown and Arthur's Point, as well as the Ben Lomond, are very beautiful, but the best is when you reach the pass and you can see the snowy outline of the lofty peaks of the National Park. Mount Aspiring: Mount Aspiring itself and Mount Edwards between them, if the day is clear. On the other side of Lake Wakatipu, the Remarkables mountain range is also of great beauty.
On the whole, it seems to be a very recommendable excursion for the visitor of Queenstown, being able to graduate the height according to the physical preparation and effort to support. For people with good ability the recommendation to climb to the top of Ben Lomond is clear, although we could not do it for reasons beyond our control, but we would not hesitate to try it in case of returning.
One last recommendation: given that we believe that the lunch or dinner at the Stratosphere is also highly recommended, we must try to select the time of reservation taking into account the time necessary to make the ascent and descent (4-4.30 hours).

Subida y bajada a todo trapo, para comer en La Estratosfera con vistas espectaculares. Buen entrenamiento para el Milford Track.
