If we had time to spare we could profitably spend an entire day on foot and explore the Glendalough area as it has so much to offer both landscaping and historically. Although we can not afford to spend a day exploring Glendalough, but for a short stroll, we first made a tour around the lakes and ruins of the Glendalough mining village (Glendalough Lake and Miners Village).

Returning to Glendalough International Hostel we follow the path of Wicklow that goes around Glendalough Lake, then cross the bottom of the main valley, just past the Visitors Center, across a bridge over the Glendasan River, the monastic city is on the right side , well worth a visit! (It is one of the most important monastic places in all of Ireland. It was founded in the 6th century by St. Kevin and destroyed by the English troops in 1398). The drive continues up valley to Poulanass Waterfall. Here the trail turns to the Lugduff valley will be the start of a climb for 4-5kms to the base of the Mullacor mountain (657m), crossing the marshy area between Mullacor and Lugduff by a promenade.
The descent of similar magnitude follows the Glenmalure Valley. This provides panoramic views up to the valley, Lugduff ridge and southwest of Art`s Lough, Fraughan Glen Rock and Lugnaquillia (highest mountain of Wicklow) on the descent to the end of this stage at Glenmalure where we overnight at the coolalingo B & B house of the friendly Maura and Tommy who welcomed us very well.
