Tour through sections 2.1 and 1.2 of the Appalachian Trail , passing through the state of Connecticut, from south to north. From the outskirts of Falls Village to Lions Head and Bunker Hill Road, in Salisbury, CT.

We made the march together with a group of mountaineers from Hudson Valley Hikers, and the tour is conditioned by the works of the iron bridge that crosses the Housatonic River as it passes through the town of Falls Village, since it is under construction and the trail Traditional AT is cut at that point, following an alternative route by road.

To avoid this road trip, the march starts east of the Housatonic River, in Falls Village and passes first through the picturesque banks and small islands and rocks over the river and its Great Falls, with a spectacular view of these waterfalls.

Very shortly after leaving the area of the waterfalls, the trail begins a climb to Prospect Mountain (1475), where you can see a great panoramic view to the north, with the Housatonic Valley and Canaan Mountain.

A short distance from the detour to the Limestone Spring Shelter, the path reaches a clear area of trees, called Rand's View, which allows to contemplate from the nearest Wetauwanchu Mountain, to the more distant Bear Mountain, Mt. Race, Mt. Everett , and many other summits of the Taconic Range and the Berkshires, through which the TA passes in the following stages. On very clear days, you can even see Mt. Greylock, in Massachusetts, located more than 50 miles away.

Also interesting are the views that are seen from Billy's View, a short distance from the previous one, in this case to the south, with the Salmon Kill Valley.

Between both panoramic, in Raccoon Hill, is Giant's Thumb, a curious rock, as a menhir, that some legend attributes to its Viking origin, and that from the geological point of view seems to be simply a great rock result of the glacier activity.

After two miles of hiking along the ridge of the Wetauwanchu Mountain, the trail descends very steeply until you find route 44/41, already in the vicinity of the town of Salisbury.

Arriving at the height of Under Mountain Road, we found an excellent AT parking, from which the steep ascent to the Lions Head (1,738 feet) begins, although this time we did not reach the top, and a few meters before reach it, we take a side detour that will take us to the end point of the route, on Bunker Hill Road.
