Route # 28 travels 95 miles round trip starting from Sarasota, located in the county of the same name on the west coast of the Florida peninsula. Then we will go into the central area of the state to go east where we will visit the town of Myakka City in Manatee County and finally pass through Arcadia, capital city of DeSoto County before returning again to the sea. In addition we will see some other small towns in this vast rural region where the most abundant are large ranches full of cattle and giant citrus plantations. Here life is tremendously peaceful. Interestingly, very near the beginning of the journey we will find a holiday refuge for Amish and Mennonites who come to spend the winter months at the Sunshine State. Along the way we can see the occasional alligator on the roadside and a multitude of birds and other farm or wild animals. In some of these farms, they even raise llamas and alpacas.
