near Nachar, Himachal Pradesh (India)

Show original
4th stage of the Kinnaur Valley, following the National Highway 22 (also known as the Hindustan-Tibet Highway). We already enter the Kinnaur district (still in the Indian state of Himalchal Pradesh). We continue along the Sutlej River and, little by little, the landscape becomes more mountainous, surrounded by forests of conifers and pointed tops that remind us of the landscape of the Catalan Pyrenees. Just beginning the stage the asphalt finishes and basically everything goes through tracks, with sections in works repairing the great amount of destructions and landslides that the last Monzó caused (just a month ago). We constantly find workers (especially women from low castes, even babies tied to their backs) who fight against a wild nature that tries to make the road disappear. There is also a lot of truck traffic, since it is the harvesting season of the apple, whose cultivation is the main means of life of the inhabitants of the Kinnaur valley. The landscape continues to remind us of some places in the Catalan Pyrenees but with more vertical walls. The route is steeply rising, except for the last 300 meters of unevenness where the track heads towards Recong Peo, capital of the Kinnaur district. The next day we take a break from it because, due to the proximity of Tibet, here is a requirement to process a special permit to continue the route.

La vall de Kinnaur és una fusió de la cultura hindú i la tibetana. A mesura que un s'endinsa a la vall i va guanyant alçada el paisatge es torna més espectacular. Salut!!
