G7toWin Help
This is a quick guide to use the free program G7toWin to convert your GPS data to GPX. It also shows how to perform the inverse process of downloading GPS locations from Wikiloc and transfer them to your GPS unit to repeat routes, navigate to waypoints etc...
If you use Linux or an operating system other than Windows, you can do the same using GPSBabel. Click here to get help on GPSBabel.
1 - Installing G7ToWin
Installing G7ToWin is very straightforward. Simply download the last version of G7ToWin from this link and uncompress it to an empty directory in your PC. Open that directory with Windows Explorer and double click on g7towin.exe. It appears G7ToWin's main window and you can already start using the program.
2 - Downloading data from your GPS receiver to your computer in GPX format
- Ensure that your GPS unit is turned on and connected to your computer
- From the main G7ToWin window, open the menu GPS --> Download from GPS --> All. G7ToWin starts receiving tracks and waypoints from your GPS unit. If you get an error during this step, take a look at the last section of this help)
- Once the download process has finished, we save in GPX format:
File --> Save As..., ensure to select
GPX files (*.gpx) as a file type and choose a suitable name for your new GPX file.
At this point you already have your GPS data in GPX file format and you can
upload it to Wikiloc.
3 - How to convert an existing GPS file in your PC to GPX
If you have your GPS data already downloaded in your PC in whatever format, G7ToWin can convert those files to GPX too. Simply open the file with G7ToWin with File --> Open and save it in GPX format following the same steps from above.
3 - Transfering a GPX file to your GPS unit
- Ensure that your GPS unit is turned on and connected to your computer
- Navigate to
File-->Open menu in G7ToWin and choose
GPX files (*.gpx) as a data type and identify the GPX file in your hard disk that you want to transfer to your GPS unit
- Start the transfer process to your GPS with
GPS --> Upload to GPS --> All.
Once the process ends you already have the route/waypoints available in your GPS unit.
5 - If G7ToWin cannot communicate/find your GPS unit
This issue is normally due to G7ToWin looking for your GPS unit in the wrong port. You can change the port number and GPS unit type (Garmin/Magellan) from the G7ToWin settings page (
File-->Configuration):
If your GPS unit comes with a USB cable, check "USB" in the "COM Port" section. If you experience communication problems, probably the USB device drivers provided by the manufacturer of your GPS aren't installed in your computer.
